What are the fundamentals of insurance?
In insurance, there are 7 basic principles that should be upheld, ie Insurable interest, Utmost good faith, proximate cause, indemnity, subrogation, contribution and loss of minimization.
- Utmost Good Faith.
- Insurable Interest.
- Proximate Cause.
- Indemnity.
- Subrogation.
- Contribution.
- Loss Minimization.
In the insurance world there are six basic principles that must be met, ie insurable interest, Utmost good faith, proximate cause, indemnity, subrogation and contribution. The right to insure arising out of a financial relationship, between the insured to the insured and legally recognized.
The basic principle of insurance is that an entity will choose to spend small periodic amounts of money against a possibility of a huge unexpected loss. Basically, all the policyholder pool their risks together. Any loss that they suffer will be paid out of their premiums which they pay.
Purpose of insurance
Its aim is to reduce financial uncertainty and make accidental loss manageable. It does this substituting payment of a small, known fee—an insurance premium—to a professional insurer in exchange for the assumption of the risk a large loss, and a promise to pay in the event of such a loss.
The 5Cs of transformation in insurance are – communication, customization, connection, cognition and consensus. Let's look at each in turn: Communication At its core, insurance is a promise. Now, there isn't much value in a promise if you can't communicate it!
“There are six Cs as to why companies form captives: cost, capacity, control, compliance, cover, and commercial,” said Patrick Ferguson, senior vice president, Marsh Captive Solutions.
There are three important elements in the computation of premium. They are (1) mortality, (2) expenses of management, (3) expected yield on its investment.
Different Types of Insurance Policies Available in India
Health Insurance. Motor Insurance. Home Insurance. Fire Insurance.

- Risk transfer.

Premium. An insurance premium is one of the most important places to look when choosing your insurance. The premium is what you have to pay on an ongoing basis to have an insurance policy. You may pay monthly, pay your entire premium upfront or choose another schedule within your policy's guidelines.
Property and Casualty insurance, also referred to as P&C insurance, is essentially joint coverage to protect you from certain risks. Like the first half of the name suggests, property insurance covers things you own —whether it's a car, a home or the belongings you place in it.
The Insuring Agreement
This is a summary of the major promises of the insurance company and states what is covered. In the Insuring Agreement, the insurer agrees to do certain things such as paying losses for covered perils, providing certain services, or agreeing to defend the insured in a liability lawsuit.
A homeowners insurance (HO-3) policy is a coverage plan that covers your home's structure, your personal belongings and liability in the event of damage or injury. Typically, an HO-3 policy will also cover additional living expenses and protection for other structures on your property.
Most insurance providers only cover pure risks, or those risks that embody most or all of the main elements of insurable risk. These elements are "due to chance," definiteness and measurability, statistical predictability, lack of catastrophic exposure, random selection, and large loss exposure.
Some important terms and coverage categories to figure out are: Walls-In: This means that the Association covers the interior of your unit at least to some degree. Typically, items such as basic flooring, cabinetry, plumbing and electrical fixtures are included in the Association's insurance protection.

Basic Form
It typically covers damage or loss caused by specific perils, such as fire, lightning, windstorm, hail, explosion, and vandalism. This type of coverage is sometimes called “named perils coverage” because it only covers the perils named explicitly in the policy.
The policy term and the premium paying term are vastly different aspects of a life insurance policy and should not be confused. The policy term is the total duration of your life insurance coverage, while the premium paying term is the number of years for which the premiums have to be paid.
All insurance companies use data and statistics to predict levels of risk for various individuals or groups. This risk calculation information is also used to develop rating plans. Generally, higher risk factors will result in higher premium rates and lower risk factors will drive premiums lower.
actuary, one who calculates insurance risks and premiums. Actuaries compute the probability of the occurrence of various contingencies of human life, such as birth, marriage, sickness, unemployment, accidents, retirement, and death.
