FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

Can I use a different cut of steak?

Absolutely. Top sirloin, flank, filet, Tri-tip, NY strip, or flat iron are all good options. If you really need to watch your budget, I think you get the most bang for your buck with a flat iron steak.

What other seasonings can I use?

Montreal Steak seasoning, Cajun seasoning, Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute, blackened seasoning or BBQ blends. Most of these already have salt in them so be careful when adding additional salt.

Can I make spicy Air Fryer Steak Bites?

Absolutely! Spice up your steak by sprinkling on some cayenne pepper. Alternatively, jazz up the butter sauce with hot sauce or chili flakes for an added kick.

I like my meat more well done, how long do I cook it for?

I cooked these so they would be medium by the time they were done cooking. I cooked them for about 5 minutes and pulled them out when the internal temperature reached 135F degrees since I know that they cook a bit more in the garlic butter sauce (to about 140-145F degrees). I recommend only going by a meat thermometer and not by time. Especially since there are so many different styles of air fryers on the market, and from my experience, some really do cook faster than others.
Below is a basic temperature guideline:
Rare: 120-125 F
Medium-rare: 125-135 F
Medium: 135-140 F
Medium-well: 145-150 F
Well-Done: 150 F and higher

I have a different air fryer, how do I make it work in mine?

I only test my recipes in a basket style air fryer. This is the air fryer that is the most popular in America and Canada. I know there are a ton of different air fryers out there these days and it is just impossible for me to test a recipe in every single kind. I also know that because of the way some are set up, they can cook a lot faster than other types of air fryers. So you are going to need to use your own general knowledge of your particular air fryer when cooking these. This is why I always say you need to go by the internal temperature of the meat and not by time.

What do I serve with steak bites?

Some options include: baked potatoes, mashed potatoes, steamed carrots or broccoli. Or maybe even just a nice little side salad.

How to store leftovers?

Store leftovers in a container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
For reheating, either use the microwave or a skillet, but don’t attempt to reheat them in the air fryer due to the high butter content. You can store these for as long as 3 months in the freezer.

INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE)

  • boneless ribeye steaks – see my FAQ (frequently asked questions) above on other steaks you can use.
  • olive oil – I prefer to use olive oil in air fryers. Some oils can gunk up your air fryer basket over time but olive oil doesn’t seem to do that.
  • salt, pepper, smoked paprika – this is a very simple seasoning because the real star of the show is the garlic butter sauce. However, use whatever seasoning you prefer.
  • salted butter – don’t use margarine, it needs to be real butter.
  • garlic cloves – I have no problem with jarred garlic but don’t use it here. Garlic is such a huge flavor in this recipe that the jarred stuff is just doing a disservice to your beautiful steaks. Take an extra couple of minutes to mince it up fresh.
  • fresh chopped parsley – this is totally optional (and you can use dried parsley too).

HOW TO MAKE AIR FRYER GARLIC BUTTER STEAK BITES

Preheat the air fryer to 400°F for 5 minutes. Add the steak, olive oil, salt, pepper, and paprika to a large bowl. Toss to combine. Add the steak bites in an even layer into the air fryer basket; no need to spray the basket. Air fry for 4-6 minutes or until your desired doneness. No need to flip. Note: I cooked the bites for 5 minutes (internal temperature of 135°F). The bites will continue to cook in the butter sauce, so keep that in mind and will come up to a medium doneness temperature between 140°F and 150°F when finished.

Notes

  • Please refer to my FAQ’s and ingredient list above for other substitutions or for the answers to the most common questions.
  • I cooked these bites to medium doneness. You will need to cook a little longer if you like it more well done. The best way to know when it is to your desired doneness is to use a meat thermometer. See my FAQ (frequently asked questions) above for the different temperatures.
  • Always remember that these steak bites will continue to cook a bit longer once you take them out of the Air Fryer. So, you need to pull them a little before you would and use a meat thermometer to know the internal temperature.
  • Other steak to use: Top sirloin, flank, filet, Tri-tip, NY strip, or flat iron
  • Other good seasoning ideas: Montreal Steak Seasoning, Cajun, Trader Joe’s 21 Seasoning Salute or BBQ seasoning would be great
  • To reheat, do so in the microwave or skillet. Since there is so much butter, I do not recommend reheating them back in the air fryer.
  • Freeze for up to 3 months.
